SYNEK Draft System Brings Tap-Fresh Beer To The Kitchen
Often if you want to drink craft beer, you need to buy it in a growler because the bottling process is too expensive for home brewers to afford and once it’s opened it’s lost its freshness within a couple of days, so make sure you have an empty stomach or a friend available. Many of us who enjoy a good beer would far prefer to be drinking it from the tap as well, and unless you own an expensive home kegerator, you’re SOL there as well.
Thanks to a new product being funded on Kickstarter, SYNEK, those problems could become a thing of the past. SYNEK is a lot like having a miniature kegerator that sits on your kitchen counter but you aren’t limited to what you can find in the way of mini kegs, if you can find someone to fill it, you can tap it.
I think that might become SYNEK’s largest obstacle, however, the entry barrier. Fortunately, they will be aided by the fact that their cartridges are designed to be somewhat universal to fill and the equipment required to do it will be supplied to the user, not the brewers, making it further simplified. With all of that being said, it’s not common for someone to roll up to their local brewer asking to fill up a foreign container with beer and that’s where some convincing may need to come into play. However, they did have this to say if you’re concerned about your local brewer supporting the device:

Let us know which ones you want us to reach out to. We have several months before the first shipment to connect with them (not just the 30 days of Kickstarter). And we haven’t had a brewery turn us down yet. We just need the word out and your support![/td_quote]
As of the writing of this article, they are about 9 days into their Kickstarter campaign and they have already raised nearly half of their $250,000 goal ($122k). Much of SYNEK’s success so far is undoubtedly thanks to their very charismatic founder, Steve Young, who is featured in their Kickstarter video, below:

SYNEK Legality
[td_divider top=”no”]
According to their FAQs at the bottom of the Kickstarter page (there are a lot of them), the SYNEK device is legal throughout the United States except in Alabama, Mississippi, Nebraska, South Dakota, and Vermont where the reasons for their being banned were not cited. They did include a full list of the number of states and breweries in each state so far, though and made sure to include the legal citations for some of the states that have very stringent laws. I also reached out to them separately and was assured that it has already been approved by the FDA.
The whole point of this is that we can have many of the beers that can’t be canned/bottled or just to have a great beer fixture on our kitchen counter (and have more cool tech added to the kitchen), not to mention that it is gorgeous, so it seems only appropriate to mention that they have already partnered with over 3000 breweries across the country, and I’m sure that the number is growing every day.
If you’re interested in supporting this project, check out the Kickstarter campaign and click the pledge button! The early bird special will get you one of these home draft systems for only $299, which is a good deal when you consider you’re saving $50 from the planned retail price of the SYNEK.
